Second List for of selected candidates for 35th Batch PGD Course
The Institute is conducting one year Post Graduate Diploma course in Wood and Panel Products Technology for young science and engineering graduates who are selected on all India merit basis. Training is biased in favor of actual transfer of skills through hands on experience at the pilot plant of the Institute simulating the factory conditions. Trainees are also exposed to actual industrial environment through study tours. To develop communication skills amongst the trainees, seminar presentation and project works are also organized.
The main objective of the course is to prepare the trainees to shoulder various responsibilities in the wood based industries. The course aims at imparting professional knowledge and skills with regard to processing technologies for efficient utilization of wood through conversion into engineered wood and a variety of panel materials/products viz. plywood, particle/fiber board, block board, flush door.

Advanced Wood Working Training

The Advanced Woodworking Training Center (AWTC) is a premier training centre is located in the heart of Bangalore city. It was established by the Institute of Wood Science & Technology (IWST) as the first Training Center in India with an aim to enhance skillset of manpower working in wood-based industries. In this endeavour, AWTC provides trained manpower to the wood based industries for handling advanced machines and tools to work on various wood and wood products that meet the global standards.

Course Calendar

Various Short term vocational training courses have been conducted for technical personnel from industry to upgrade their skill in the specialized field of interest such as veneer peeling, resin manufacture, panel/sheet manufacture, Sandalwood Nursery Techniques, testing and standardization and others. A few courses have also been conducted to train artisans/rural people engaged in bamboo related activities for mechanized slivering of bamboo required for mat making, NGOs, engineers and architects in bamboo based housing and entrepreneurs for different bamboo based technologies.

Sandalwood Information System

Santalum album. Linn commonly known as East Indian sandalwood or chandan belongs to the family Santalaceae. It is highly valuable and becoming endangered species. It is distributed all over the country and more than 90% lies in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu covering 8300 sq kms. Sandalwood plays an important role in the religious life of Indians. The essential oil obtained from this wood has occupied significant place in perfumery industries/market. Although it is available in some other countries still the Indian Sandalwood has retained its dominance over other sources because of its quality.

Incubation Guidelines
ICFRE-IWST has full-fledged Incubation Centre with 250 sq.mt. work space with modern wood working machineries to assist the inventors and entrepreneurs. Institute also host IT Cell and library to access the knowledge in the field of wood science and technology. ICFRE-IWST host Wood Properties and Processing (WPP) Division and Plywood and Panel Product Technology Division with experienced wood scientists and technical officers to guide and assist students, faculty, stakeholders and community inventors on their invention ideas into business model.
