1. Bamboo: Tissue Culture

Dates                   : I Course : 06 – 10 April 2020

                        :II Course: 12 – 16 October, 2020

Fees                     : Rs. 15,,000/- (With boarding and lodging) + 18% GST; Rs. 10,000/- (Without lodging facility) + 18% GST

Course content : Preparation of various media, types of explant collection, techniques of carrying explants from field to laboratory, explant sterilization techniques, inoculation techniques for shoot initiation, In vitro shoot multiplication, In vitro and ex vitro rooting, potting mixture preparation, methods of hardening of In vitro and ex vitro rooted plants at mist chamber.

2. Sandalwood    : Tissue Culture Techniques

                          II Course: 06 - 08 January 2021

Course content: Modes of propagation through tissue culture; Media preparation; Explant collection; Surface sterilization and inoculation; Shoot multiplication, rooting and genetic fidelity testing; Potting mixture preparation for hardening in mist chamber.

 

3. Sandalwood: Seed handling, Nursery and Plantation Technology

                         II Course : 21 – 25 September, 2020

                         III Course: 14 – 18 December, 2020

                         IV Course: 15 – 19 February, 2021

Fees                     : Rs. 15,000/- (With boarding and lodging) + 18% GST ; Rs. 10,000/- (Without lodging facility) + 18% GST

Course Content : Components of nursery, propagation techniques, composting, concept of root trainers based seedling production, seed technology, supplementary nutrition, bio-fertilizers, pest management in nursery and quality assessment of seedlings (includes one day field tour and half day field visit to KSDL).

4. Wood Seasoning and Preservation

Course Director   : Dr. Shakti Singh Chauhan

Dates                     : 14 - 18 September, 2020;  01 – 05 February, 2021

Fees                      : Rs. 15,000/- (With boarding and lodging) + 18% GST ;Rs.10,000/- (Without lodging facility) + 18% GST

Course Content : Wood seasoning and preservation, basic concepts of wood seasoning, methods of wood seasoning, seasoning schedules, drying defects and their control, different types of wood preservatives, methods of wood treatment and safety measures (i.e. handling issues, protection from weathering and wood coating, wood modification, wood degradation by different kind of bio-organisms (i.e.fungi, termites, borers, etc.) and marine biodegradation and about their preventive measures.

 

5. Sandalwood: Farming and Management of its Health

Course Director  : Dr. R. Sundararaj

Dates                   : 05 – 07 October, 2020

Fees                     : Rs. 9000/- (With boarding and lodging) + 18% GST ; Rs. 6000/- (Without lodging facility) + 18% GST

Course content  : Basics of raising healthy nurseries and plantations of sandalwood with special focus good silvicultural practices for the best of sandalwood, management of pest and disease of sandalwood with practical demonstrations in field, economics, oil extraction and protection details.

 

6. Extraction and Quality Assessment of Sandalwood and other Essential Oils

Dates                   : I Course 07 – 09 October, 2020 ;  II Course 03 - 05 February 2021

Course content : Basics of essential oil, extraction techniques of essential oil, quality assessment of essential oil, Value addition of essential oil, practical demonstration of essential oil extraction and testing of essential oil for quality control

 

7. Wood Modification

Dates                    : 13 - 14 October 2020

Fees                     : Rs. 6,000/- (With boarding and lodging) + 18% GST;  Rs. 4,000/- (Without lodging facility) + 18% GST

Course content : Basics of wood and wood properties, wood bio-degradation, weathering of wood, need for modification, techniques of wood modification (chemical, thermal and impregnation), value addition and protection of wood by modification

 

8. Field Identification of Important Timbers

Course content : Field Identification of 25 commercial timbers, Method of identification (Physical properties and internal structural features)

 

9. Clonal Propagation of Melia dubia

Dates                     : I Course 09 to 13 November 2020; II Course 08 to 12 February 2021

Course content : Macropropagation technique; Micropropagation: Media preparation; Explant collection; Surface sterilization and inoculation; Shoot multiplication, rooting and genetic fidelity testing; Hardening in mist chamber; Nursery practices; One day visit to plantation/industry.

 

10. Sandalwood: Establishment and Maintenance of Healthy Nurseries and Plantations

Course content : Seed and nursery technology of sandalwood with hands on training, management of pests and diseases in sandalwood nursery and plantations with special focus on good silviculturalpractices for best health of sandalwood, sandalwood trade, economics, protection, utilization and assessment of oil content and demonstration of oil extraction, policy and schemes of Forest Department for encouraging raisin of sandalwood plantations, visit to relevant laboratories and sandalwood plantations.

 

11. Insect Pest Management

Course Director : Dr. Muthu Kumar

Dates                   : 7th and 11th December 2020

Fees                     : Rs. 6,000/- (With boarding and lodging) + 18% GST; Rs. 4,000/- (Without lodging facility) + 18% GST

Course content : The IPM/IDM strategies will be helpful to minimize the indiscriminate and injudicious use of chemical pesticides against insects and pathogens prevailing in nurseries and planations of Sandalwood. IPM/IDM is an eco-friendly approach for managing pest and disease problems encompassing available methods and techniques of pest control such as cultural, mechanical, biological and chemical in a compatible and scientific manner. The prime intention to adopt IPM/IDM is to avoid economic loss for a sustainable production and prevention of adverse effects of chemicals to the environment.

 

12. Bamboo Agarbatti Stick Making

Course Director : Dr. S. K. Sharma

Dates                   : 20 – 22January, 2021

Fees                     : Rs. 9000/- (With boarding and lodging) + 18% GST;  Rs. 6000/- (Without lodging facility) + 18% GST

Course content : Introduction and hands-on training on Bamboo Processing Machines for agarbatti stick making (bamboo cross cutting machine, bamboo splitting machine, bamboo sliver machine, bamboo stick making machine, bamboo sticking sizing machine and bamboo stick polishing machine)

NOTE: ALL THE ABOVE COURSES CAN BE SCHEDULED AS PER REQUEST TO ANY MUTUALLY CONVENIENT PERIOD PROVIDED, FOR ALL COURSES.

Advanced Woodworking Training Centre (AWTC) of the Institute imparts Training on

1.       Basic machinery,

2.       CNC machine and

3.       PYTHA software on regular basis to the industries and other stakeholders.

  • The above courses can be customized and scheduled to any mutually convenient period on request based on number of participants.

  • For students/research scholars, a concessional fee of Rs.4000/- and Rs.7000/- will be charged for 3 days training and 5 days training respectively withoutlodging facility.

Facilities: The Institute has well equipped laboratories, wood processing machineries, timber seasoning and preservation plant, nursery for raising seedlings and mist chamber for clonal propagation, Xylarium, insect museum, library and computer center etc. It also has nurseries and experimental field stations for conducting wood science and forestry research as well as training. A Scientists’ Hostel and a Guest House within the campus can accommodate the trainees well.

Faculty: The Institute has qualified and trained scientists with national and international exposure. Apart from the scientists of the Institute, renowned experts from other reputed institutions/universities are also engaged as resource persons/guest faculty.

Registration: The application/nomination letter should be sent in the prescribed format to the respective contact persons, Institute of Wood Science and Technology, 18th Cross, Malleshwaram, Bangalore 560 003 at least 15 days before the commencement of the respective course. The requisite course fee can be paid through Demand Draft drawn in favour of “The Director, Institute of Wood Science and Technology, Bangalore” payable at Bangalore.

Participants are advised to commence their journey for the training only after receiving confirmation about the course. If adequate response for a particular course is not received, the same is liable to be cancelled. In that case, the course fee will be refunded to the concerned.
