Silviculture and  Community Interface Division

Introduction:

          The newly formed Silviculture and Community Interface division was formed on the 20th of February 2013. It was carved out from the earlier Tree Improvement and propagation Division. The silviculture and community interface division would primarily focus on research activities pertaining to various silvicultural techniques of important plant species that would benefit communities’ dependant on forests for their livelihood.

Aim:

  • To study various silvicultural aspects benefiting the communities dependant on forests for their livelihood.

Goal:

  • Improve livelihood support systems of communities directly dependant on forests through silvicultural intervention.

Research Activities undertaken:

  • Various programmes are being planned

New Initiatives:

  • A project entitled “Effect of Acacia plantations on growth and regeneration of semi-evergreen and evergreen forest patches of Western Ghats –A case study in Belgaum Circle” has been submitted to Karnataka Forest Department for funding. PI: Ms. Praneetha Paul
